As part of the climate actions of The Reef Awareness program, in March 2023 we installed water dispensers in common areas of our hotels and eliminated the use of single-use plastics in rooms, restaurants and other services and operations.

To reduce plastic pollution in the oceans, at The Reef Resorts & Spa we joined the Plastic Free action, by reducing disposable plastic in our operations we contribute to prevent the arrival of plastic in the oceans.

It is estimated that between 11 and 14 million tons of plastic reach the oceans every year. All the more reason to establish a link with Clean Seas and its programs. We follow integral actions that are recommended to regenerate our seas and preserve our beaches with the conscious care of each tourist in the new ways that nature demands.

At The Reef, we aspire to contribute to the elimination of the consumption of almost 200,000 plastic bottles per year, this through the change of policy of our operations and services. In our rooms and restaurants, we do not serve single-use plastic beverages; we have refillable pitchers for our guests’ attention. We do not use single-use containers for personal hygiene products, such as soap, shampoo or others, our rooms have refillable dispensers. We have water dispensers and refillable bottles for the use of our guests.

In this way, at The Reef, we are certified as a company awareness of responsible consumption and production. We promote empathy with global climate actions such as Plastic Free to the tourism of Playa del Carmen.

At The Reef we are awareness of the importance of caring for our oceans. As the marine waste crisis worsens, the number of beach cleanups increases, we invite the community, collaborators and guests to monthly cleanup days on our beaches.
